PROBLEM: Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 Memory Upgrade

Hi,

I bought 2* 1GB DDR-2 SO-DIMM modules to upgrade my A100 to maximum memory size.

After installing the A100 will not boot!!

If however I place the old 512MB Module in one of the slots and leave the other !GB in the other slot it will reboot but only gives 890MB of Memory free.

How can I resolve this problem I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version.

Re: PROBLEM: Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 Memory Upgrade

Can you link us to the exact module you purchased from Crucial?

Did you choose it because it was advised from the Crucial memory scanner?

Re: PROBLEM: Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 Memory Upgrade

Yes I did use the Memory Scanner from Crucial and it recommended buying the following module.

So I assumed it would be OK!!

Re: PROBLEM: Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 Memory Upgrade

You probably can't mix this memory then, they are different sized and specs so it's very likely they will not work together.

The new memory works by itself correct?

Re: PROBLEM: Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 Memory Upgrade

No, the 1GB Modules on their own do not work.

I tried booting with just 1GB module but it would not boot.

I tried booting with original 512 MB module and 1GB module from Crucial and it does boot but there is only 896MB of active memory. The memory in the 512 MB module is not active but seems to be essential for booting the A100.

This is the same with both the 1GB modules.

I am perplexed by this.

Re: PROBLEM: Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 Memory Upgrade

Hello Ken,

I would like to double check the scanner results.  On your system, is the model printed as Satellite Pro A100, or is it a Satellite A100?  Also, on the system after the A100, typically there is a hyphen then another number.  Could you provide this full model number?

Re: PROBLEM: Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 Memory Upgrade

I have had exactly the same problem with a RAM upgrade to my satellite pro A100-262. It has to have the original 256Mb RAM fitted in slot 1 for it to work with a new 1Gb RAM in slot 2 but will not boot up if both slots are occupied by the new 1Gb RAMs.  Any suggestions?
