BIOS detects M500 SSD but Windows 8 Does not

Hi Crucial,

I am hoping you can assist me with the situation below,

I have just placed my new Crucial M500 480 gb in my Alienware M17x R4 Laptop,

The BIOS detects the newly placed SSD Crucial M500, however when I login into Windows 8, My Computer does not show the new SSD, only my old HDD. In addition I have checked the cmd window and scanned the system for disks,

Could you please provide advice on how to proceed and enable windows to detect the SSD?

Kind Regards,

Toby Butcher

Re: BIOS detects M500 SSD but Windows 8 Does not

Hello,

This did not work for me.  Disk management does not recognize the SSD drive so I dont get the pop-up. I have an HP Envy 1414 with a six core AMD processor.  I can see it in bios though.

I have updated to the latest bios on the mother board.  I have restarted several times. I tried to switch from RAID to AHCI but the pc would not boot.  Re-scanned hardware in device manager.

I am just trying to use this as a data drive and don't need to boot from it.

I just bought this from Amazon and would like to keep.  My 32GB of RAM is from Crucial and that works great.

That's probably your problem.  Some people have had trouble using newer Marvell based drive on AMD raid controllers.  I'm not sure there's a solution other than to not use RAID.  If your other drivers are raided then this obviously poses a problem!  If they're not, then you could switch to non-raid but I'm not sure how to do that without a Windows re-install.

hi, maybe you can first to update some drivers for your m17x r4, and you can download it from here: https://www.driverdr.com/dell-drivers/dell-alienware-m17x-r4-early-2012-drivers-free-download
