Crucial M500 480GB upgrade for Acer Aspire 1810 TZ
A record of my experience upgrading a Acer Aspire 1810 TZ with a Crucial M500 480GB SSD.
I cloned the existing HDD using Acronis True Image HD onto the SSD in a USB/SATA cradle, then swapped the drives.
The laptop booted fine, but after a couple of days Windows started reporting that it was a non-genuine version of windows installed - the ‘windows activation’ report saying that several operating system files had were "Tampered Files". I was locked out of Windows update.
After trying various suggestions to repair the installation with no success, I finally fixed the problem by updating the driver for the "Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller" to version 220.127.116.113 dated 19/11/2012, downloaded directly from the Intel website. This driver is a couple of years newer that the latest driver on the Acer website for this laptop.
