Reporting a firmware to other model is one thing, but flashing that firmware to other model is another. It seems that Joe_Kurr flashed his MX100 with M550's MU02 firmware so the question he could ask is "will the drive work properly now"?

The current thread should probably be reserved for M550 MU02 firmware related issues.

And I agree with Alex Smiley Wink This part of the discussion should probably be cut off from this thread and merged with Storage Executive thread.

My assumption was they'd accidentally briefly made an upcoming MX100 update public prematurely?

I presume the M550 update would refuse to install on an MX100.

I obviously don't know though.

Re: Feedback Thread: Firmware MU02 for M550

Hi,

i am not able to boot using the iso in the provided zipfile.

I tried to progrem listed in the update guide but it won't boot.

I also tried the cruical executive program but it won't boot.

My bios is set to boot from my ssd (i have another 1tb hd installed)

and it's set to ahci.

Even when it recognized the usb drive as bootable - it simply won't boot.

But i did have success booting afterwords from usb to update the firmware of other hardware.

so it seems the problem is with the update and the laptop... do you have any suggestion?

My laptop is gigabyte p25w v2

Re: Feedback Thread: Firmware MU02 for M550

Hello everyone,

are there any news how to solve the problem?

I am using an old MSI P7N2 with Win 7 prof. x64 and I tried to flash the new firmware via USB Stick on my M550.

I used the pdf guide and installed the "M550_SED_UPDATE_MU02_BOOTABLE" on an USB Stick with the recommended Pendrive Linux Universal USB Installer and followed the steps in the guide.

But during the update it fails with status 13.

Is there any fix for this?

Edit: Might be of interest:

I am using the Standard Two-Channel PCI-IDE-Controller since the NVidia 790i Chipset (nvidia nforce serial ata controller) does not support the TRIM command.

I may have misunderstood what you wrote there.  But do you mean you are using an adaptor to connect your SSD via an IDE port?

If so:

I can't imagine trim works there either?

IDE is way slower than the SSD

I'm not surprised the firmware update won't work.

Those old Nvidia boards are the one circumstance where using a PCI Express addon sata card (the marvell 912x or asmedia ones) is a good idea! Smiley Happy

Re: Feedback Thread: Firmware MU02 for M550

You did.

The SSD is connected to the first SATA port. Don't ask me how exactly it works, I am not a computer genious, but it uses a microsoft controller instead of the nvidia one. And yes, TRIM does work, at least Trimcheck tells me so, but it doesn't with the nvidia one.

I could try to use the nvidia controller for the sake of flashing the new firmware and then switch back to the microsoft one again.

Edit: Just tried it, didn't work.

edit 2:

What does the error code 13 even stand for? Is there any official response to this?

Edit 3:

In oder to figure out where I can get the best performance out of my Sata 2 board, I connected my M550 with one of my mainboards eSATA-Ports that support AHCI, using a SATA to e-SATA cable.

Although the speed didn't increase much over the two channel PCI-IDE Controller, I was finally able to flash my SSD from MU01 to MU02. Smiley Very Happy

Re: Feedback Thread: Firmware MU02 for M550

Hi,

I tried to install firmaware update on my brand new Crucial m550 (sata III)

I have a macbook pro 13" mid 2010

I installed Yosemite and then Windows 7 with bootcamp.

I installed Crucial Storage Executive from Windows 7 and from there I clicked on Update Firmware Now.

The computer rebooted and the update process started.

After a while it returned an error 13 and it rebooted again.

I checked again with Storage Executive and the firmware is not updated.

How can I solve the problem?
Is it ok to stay with firmware MU01?

If you are not having problems with the M550 firmware MU01, it is o.k to keep using MU01.

If you want to upgrade to MU02, you can try another method which involves creating an EFI bootable USB pendrive / flash drive, then adding the firmware updater files and booting from USB.

Info here:

Please: note, this is not an official update method endorsed by Crucial, but it worked for some Mac users that were previously getting the error 13 message.

Re: Feedback Thread: Firmware MU02 for M550

Used the suggested tool and created a bootable USB (PC doesn't have optical drive) to update from MU1 to MU2 after my m.Sata M550 suddenly disappeared WHILE I was playing a game(reboot fixed that, for now)

Getting update error code 13. Any suggestions? Windows 8.1.

Fresh install.

I tried using that storage executive as well...but as soon as I try to run it the entire PC will just freeze.

The M550 m.Sata sits on an Asrock fm2a88x-itx+ board. I used to have an M500 in that slot before with no such troubles...so this is really annoying.
