M4 128GB - BSOD / freezes frequently

Hi there,

over the last few weeks I got several BSODs and freezes every day.

They start randomly while gaming or surfing, resulting in a partial freeze of the system (mouse still moving, mouse-over effects still occuring once) till the system freezes totally and finally (not in all cases) resulting in a BSOD. Sometimes the system gets back to normal without doing anything special but trying to open task manager.

BSOD is stuck on "Initializing disk for crash dump freeze" - or at least i dont wait longer then 2 minutes.

(had a semi-freeze right now)

SSD is running on 070H firmware and has W7 installed on it.

BSOD: STOP: 0x000000f4 (0x0000000000000003  0xFFFFFA8008416060 0xFFFFFA8008416340 0xFFFFF800035C5350)

Re: M4 128GB - BSOD / freezes frequently

Same issue here, M4 128GB six months old, latest firmware 070H, on a HP Pavillion laptop.

Very frequent BSOD (KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR, stop 0x07A, ntfs.sys), recurring read/write errors while performing file copy and backup.

All problems began after the firmware upgrade. The system in now completely unusable.

Re: M4 128GB - BSOD / freezes frequently

same problem here.

Started 3 Weeks ago and now I have about 30-45 mins in windows, till it crashes.

Bought a m500 and imaged the old m4 to it...with the m500 no prob at all...

Will RMA my m500...this is not acceptable!

BSOD's and Disappearing M4's, join the club.  Sorry, just venting my frustrations.

Re: M4 128GB - BSOD / freezes frequently

Same here - M4 128GB. Was working fine, but get random unresponsive programs since the firmware update. Firefox, chrome, word, etc: they suddenly hang, sometimes recover after 30-60seconds, or the computer becomes completely unresponsive.

Is there a way to force a firmware downgrade?

Thanks,

Re: M4 128GB - BSOD / freezes frequently

Yes, if you want to try it, you can downgrade to an older release, e.g. 0309 or 000F.

If you have the 2.5 inch Crucial M4 you can use these links.

http://edge.crucial.com/firmware/m4/0309/Crucialm4_0309.zip

http://edge.crucial.com/firmware/m4/000F/Crucialm4_000F.zip

Burn the ISO to CDROM (or use USB method) and boot the CDROM, then you should be able to apply the older firmware.

Re: M4 128GB - BSOD / freezes frequently

I had the same problems, this is how I finally got to fix them.

I tried many things before having success, these are the ones I remember right now:

1 - Update to latest ssd firmware.

2 - Enable hotplug in bios.

When I finally managed to put the dreaded BSoD into the past was when I did the following:

3 - Install latest intel RST drivers.

4 - Apply the LPM fix, via registry patch.

I don't know if the problem dissappeared just because of two the last steps, or if it was a combination of everything, but thing is, I haven't suffered a BSoD ever since.

Hope it helps!

Re: M4 128GB - BSOD / freezes frequently

Laz0rguwke SSD hast 6 UltraMDA CRC Errors, which suggest a problem withe the SATA cable. 0xF4 BSOD do not need to be form the SSD itself if there are system files like the pagefile on the HDD and that fails, there will be such a BSOD too. Check if there is a MiniDump form that BSOD, which of couse only can be created if a pagefile exists and the settings are correct. When a Minidump has been created, the problem ussually is not the SSD itself.

Re: M4 128GB - BSOD / freezes frequently

The system won't create dump-files mostly. As i said in the first post, the system freezes in BSOD at "Initializing disk for crash dump freeze".

But in the meanwhile i got some dumps. All of which look quite the same:

Re: M4 128GB - BSOD / freezes frequently

Hi everyone,

First of all I would like to say sorry for the problems you have had with your SSD.

So we can look in to what is causing the issue I will need some more information from you.  One of our users Syal posted in this thread saying he resolved this issue by installing the latest Intel RST drivers and applying a LPM registry patch.

Has anyone else tried these steps to see if it has resolved the freezing issues you have been having?

Have you tried going back to a previous firmware version?  You can download either 0309 or 000f firmware versions at the following links:

http://edge.crucial.com/firmware/m4/0309/Crucialm4_0309.zip

http://edge.crucial.com/firmware/m4/000F/Crucialm4_000F.zip

Burn the ISO to a CD and boot from the CD to do the update.  It will allow you to downgrade the firmware to either of those versions.

Have you tried the drive in a different SATA port, or with a different SATA cable?

Have these issues just happened since you have upgraded the firmware on the drive?

The more information you can provide the better, I will look in to this problem for you and we can get a solution to resolve the freezing you are having.
